Woodland Walk NW DC (Wesley Heights neighborhood)

  • 10:00 – 11:30am
  • Meet at corner of Garfield Street and New Mexico Ave.  Trail head on Garfield St.
  • Walk via Glover Archibald Park and Battery Kemble Park
  • Mileage;  3.5 mile round trip walk.
  • Trail Conditions: Mostly woodland trails and some city sidewalks.
  • Led by Fran Barnes

Woodland Walk VA (Great Falls Difficult Run)

  • 1:00 – 2:30pm
  • Meet at Difficult Run Parking Lot on Route 123 (left after passing Towlston road if heading from east to west)
  • Mileage; 4 miles round trip
  • Trail Conditions: Mostly woodland trails, flanked by Difficult Run (a stream) and views of Potomac River
  • Led by Margaret Rietano

Woodland Walk Rock Creek Park (Upper)

  • 5:30 – 7:00pm
  • Meet at Oregon Street & Tennyson Street, NW 20015. Parking on Tennyson Street.
  • Route: Modified Northern Loop
  • Mileage and Trail Conditions: 4.8 miles. Woodland. Hilly ups and downs. Few water crossings.
  • Led by Celine Delany

Monday, September 18

Sunrise Woodland Walk NW DC (Cleveland Park neighborhood)

  • 6:15 – 7:00am: Meet at corner of Woodley Ave and 35th St (entrance to Beauvoir School)
  • Route: Bishops Garden, Olmsted Woods and The Tregaron Conservancy.
  • Mileage and Trail Conditions: 2.5 miles, hilly ups/downs, some single track, some city sidewalk
  • Led by Margaret Rietano

Woodland Walk Chevy Chase DC (Forest Hills, NW)

  • 8:30 – 10:00am:
  • Meet at Rock Creek Nature Center
  • ROUTE: Western Ridge Trail
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 4.6. Woodland. Hilly ups and downs. Single Tracks.
  • Led by Celine Delany

Woodland Walk VA (Mclean near Chain Bridge)

  • 12:00 – 1:15pm
  • Pimmit Run Trail: meet at small parking area just across Chain Bridge (VA side).
  • Route: out and back with several shallow stream crossings
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 3.5 miles, single track
  • Led by Margaret Rietano

Dusk Woodland Walk NW DC (Wesley Heights neighborhood)

  • 6:00-7:00pm
  •  Meet at trail-head for Glover Archbold Park on 44th and Edmunds Street
  • ROUTE: Figure 8 through the hills and dales of Glover Archbold Park
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2+ miles of hilly, single track and double track trails

Sunrise Woodland Walk Chevy Chase DC (Forest Hills, NW)

  • 6:15 – 7:00am:
  • Oregon Street & Tennyson Street, NW 20015. Parking on Tennyson Street.
  • ROUTE: Out and back
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2 miles.  Paved Trail (possible woodland trail depending on light condition at dawn)
  • Led by Celine Delany

Sunrise Woodland Walk NW DC (Georgetown)

  • 6:15 – 7:00am
  • Meet at top of Lovers Lane
  • ROUTE: Perimeter loop trail in Dumbarton Oaks Park and Montrose Park
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 1.6 miles. Double track paths. Rooty, rocky and hilly in some parts.
  • Led by Fran Barnes

Woodland Walk NW DC (Cleveland Park Neighborhood)

  • 9:00 – 10:15: New Klingle Road trail: Meet at trailhead on Klingle road just off of Woodley near back entrance to Washington International School/Tregaron Conservancy.
  • Route: Savor this new urban oasis and access path that connects Rock Creek Park to Cleveland Park and then drop into valley of Rock Creek
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions:  3 miles.  Up/down hilly, some paved and some single track loop.
  • Led by Fran Barnes

Woodland Walk McLEAN VA

  • 12:30 – 2:00pm
  • Scott’s Run Loop (McLean, VA) – Meet at parking lot/Trail Head  at the Langley Club; 728 Live Oak DR 22101. Just inside beltway and off of 193.  Detailed directions will be provided in the daily email.
  • Route: Travel along pale blue blazed route to Potomac River. Flank river to Scotts Run Waterfalls. Trek up to Burling Homestead and return on green/yello/blue blazed trails.
  • Mileage & Trail ConditionsHilly up/down, double track & single track and some steep ascents/descents along Potomac River banks. ~3.5 miles

Dusk WOODLAND WALK Chevy Chase DC (Forest Hills, NW)

  • 6:00 – 7:00pm
  • Meet at Albemarle St. between 32nd Place, NW & Connecticut Ave.  Parking on Albermarle St.
  • ROUTE: Soapstone Valley Trail – out and back
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2 miles.   Hilly ups and downs. Stream crossings
  • Led by Celine Delany

Wednesday, September 20

YOGA in the Elements

  • 8:30 – 10:30am
  •  Park and gather on Potomac Avenue at top of hill just off of Arizona Ave (Palisades neighborhood).
  • Route: we will walk (1mi) to our breathtaking ‘yoga pad’ surrounded by the Potomac River on 3 sides for a ‘flow’ yoga experience in the great outdoors.
  • Bring water, sunblock and your own yoga mat. The surface is concrete so if you wish to double your mat, then bring 2. Wear regular walking shoes for walk and barefoot for yoga.

  • 12:30 – 1:30pm
  • Meet at Rock Creek Nature Center Parking Lot; 5200 Glover Road, NW DC .  Start behind Rock Creek Horse Center
  • ROUTE: Boulder Bridge Loop/Reverse Modified Southern Loop: Horse center Trail to Rapids Bridge to Valley Trail to Boulder Bridge to Western Ridge Trail
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2.5 miles. Woodland. Single track a & horse trails.  Hilly ups and downs

Dusk Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) Woodland Walk (NW DC)

  • 6:00 – 7:00pm
  •  Meet at Whitehaven Park picnic tables in meadow – 37th and Whitehaven Street  in Burleith neighborhood. Parking on Whitehaven and 37th.
  • ROUTE: Loop up through meadows and Community Vegetable Garden and cross Foundry Branch Stream.
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2 to 3 miles. We will take a slower pace and take time to savor all the woods have to offer.

  • Route: Starting at the Welcome Desk on cathedral ground floor (northern entrance)

  • 12:00 – 1:30pm
  • Meet at Francis Scott Key Park in Georgetown at M Street & 34th. Best to park on side streets (2 hour limit) or M Street (‘Park Mobile’ app or meter) or in underground parking of Georgetown Park mall
  • Route: Key Bridge to Roosevelt Island loop
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 4 miles. Some city sidewalks, some double track trails
  • Led by Margaret Rietano

Dusk Woodland Walk NW DC (West G’town/Burleith neighborhood)

  • 6:00 – 7:00pm
  • Battery Kemble Park + Little Red School house trail to Canal: Park at Battery Kemble Park parking lot on Chain Bridge Road between Macarthur Blvd and Loughboro Road.
  • ROUTE: Loop through Battery Kemble Park down to Little Red School House Trail to Canal and back.
  • Mileage & Trail Conditions: 2-3 miles and double track path, Rooty, rocky and hilly.
